Case study

Japan

Japan has for so long been associated with peace / pacifism. Yet for the past 10 years has lifted some of the clauses.

Could be due to Chinese threat to sovereignty. Also economic benefits with deals with the $4 billion deal with Australia to sell frigates to.

Japan has found itself at a 40% growth in weapons development.

Pacifism not only part of the constitution, but many cultures where violence / turn to militarism violates those principles – some will use realism to say it is necessary, others feel that Japan is abandoning its values and traditions.

Argument for pacifism seen Japan has been able to maintain sovereignty without militarism since WW2.
